Michael Jungfleisch was born in 1967 as the second child of his wonderful parents in Esslingen am Neckar, now living happily with his wife in Potsdam and the proud father of three.
Long before Sommerhaus, he completed school and graduated in Böblingen by 1988, followed by civilian service in Sindelfingen until 1989. In 1990, he briefly studied something-not-quite-properly in Tübingen, completed his first film internship, and continued working freelance as a production manager at EuroArts/Hellthaler in Stuttgart until 1993. He then happily followed the call of the newly founded Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg, graduating in 1996 with the very first graduating class. That same year, he founded first the production office jungfleisch&hünemörder, then in 1998 the company gambit-film in Ludwigsburg, and produced many rad films until the company’s insolvency in 2008. After that, he worked as a freelance line producer for Jochen Laube’s and Fabian Maubach’s „Unit-LB“ by UFA Fiction, alongside Leif Alexis, until 2015. Since then, he holds office and honor as head of production at Sommerhaus.
As a producer, he was responsible for the Filmakademie graduation films Lasst es rote Rosen regnen im Palast der Republik (fiction, Thomas Frydetzki, 1996), Anti-Sisyphos (documentary, Dominik Wessely, 1996), and Wir lebten im Gras (animation, Andreas Hykade, 1996). With gambit-film, he went on to produce smash hits such as Die Blume der Hausfrau (documentary, Dominik Wessely, 1999), Ring of Fire (animation, Andreas Hykade, 2000), Mein Bruder der Vampir (fiction, Sven Taddicken, 2001), Schotter wie Heu (documentary, Böller & Brot, 2002), 28 Days Later (fiction by Danny Boyle, German production service, 2002), Bernau liegt am Meer (documentary, Martina Döcker, 2003), Bomben auf Berlin (short, Bernd Lange, 2005), Zur falschen Zeit am falschen Ort (documentary, Tamara Milosevic, 2005), Anfassen erlaubt (documentary, Johannes Naber, 2005), Eden (fiction, Michael Hofmann, 2006), Die Unzerbrechlichen (documentary, Dominik Wessely, 2006), Rabenbrüder (fiction, Bernd Lange, 2006), and Weitertanzen (fiction, Friederike Jehn, 2008) – just to name a few. Since 2008, he has overseen nearly all productions by Jochen Laube and Fabian Maubach – first at UFA Fiction, now at Sommerhaus – working as head of production alongside his many brilliant colleagues.
Among others, he received the German Film Award in Silver for Wir lebten im Gras with Andreas Hykade in 1996, therefore has been a member of the German Film Academy since its founding, graduated from EAVE in 2004, and occasionally teaches as a guest lecturer at various film schools.
Among countless hobbies – like film and Excel – he’s always happy to enjoy Iggy P., Willie N., Smiths, J.S. Bach, K. Vonnegut, Th. Bernhard, E. Henscheid, F. Schulz, and everything else that is beautiful, makes you laugh, and doesn’t hurt anyone.
His personal credos, if you will:
"I don't know about you, but I practice a disorganized religion. I belong to an unholy disorder. We call ourselves 'Our Lady of the Perpetual Astonishment'."
and
"And so it goes…"
Both, unsurprisingly, by Kurt Vonnegut.
