Fabian Maubach, born in Cologne, completed his studies at the Filmacademy Baden-Wuerttemberg, specializing in International Producing. His graduation film The Day I Was Not Born (2009, director: Florian Cossen) won numerous national and international awards - including two German Film Awards - and was also his first project with Jochen Laube.
This collaboration continued during their time together at UFA Fiction (formerly teamWorx Ludwigsburg). There, Fabian Maubach produced the German-Canadian co-production Coconut Hero (2015), again under the direction of Florian Cossen.
With Sommerhaus Filmproduktion, which he co-founded with Jochen Laube in 2015, he realized projects such as In the Aisles (2018, directed by Thomas Stuber), which premiered in competition at the 68th Berlinale, the feature film When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit (2019, directed by Oscar winner Caroline Link), which was seen by a million people, and Burhan Qurbani's internationally acclaimed adaptation of Alfred Döblin's novel Berlin Alexanderplatz, which screened in competition at the Berlinale in 2020.
The first season of The Empress by showrunner Katharina Eyssen topped the global ranking of non-English-language Netflix series after its brilliant start in September 2022. The Empress was also awarded the International Emmy for Best Drama Series in 2023.
In addition to the second season of The Empress, Burhan Qurbani's gangster drama No beast. so fierce. was completed in 2024, was completed in 2024 and premiered at the 2025 Berlinale.
